This is where we will be in touch for the next few days while you're doing your mock exams.
I'd like you to write a short profile of yourself, maybe include something surprising or unusual that the rest of the class doesn't know about you...
I'd also like you to post your film reviews. I've been reading them over the weekend I there are definitely some budding film critics among you!
When I've got the full timetable for this week's exams I'll put those up, including the exact times for your speaking tests on Wednesday.
Can't wait to see what you put up here!

ReplyDeleteWhich are those aspects that make a movie appealing rather than dull? Well, the variety of genres matches the variety of people's tastes. However, a good film should certainliy leave you with an impression or a feeling: love, sadness or just simple laughter. 'American Pie' and 'Not Another Teen Movie' fully provoke he latter.
ReplyDeleteThese two parodic love comedies have a sense of humor which is inextricably linked with a love story. The aim of the characters, who are in their last school year, is to win the heart of a beloved person, and, the only chance to do that is prom.
What differentiates the two movies is a slightly different object of parody. While 'American Pie' is a burlesque, but still plausible, description of a group of teenagers with the aim of having sex after the ball, 'Not Another Teen Movie' is just a parody of the genre inspired by the first movie. The latter is, let's say, the parodical description of a parodical genre; dissecting, emulating and praising it.
In my opinion, they are both equally worth watching: romantic and exhilarating at the same time. But, if you are not familiar with this type of movies, I would definitely recommend 'American Pie', since it is a pparody of a realistic situation, rather than one of a genre which you might not be familiar with.
Before reading your reviews, Mauro, I had never thought about watching either of them, but now that you have written such a positive review, maybe I should give American Pie a go - I'll let you know what I think of it! Has anyone else in the class seen these films?
