In the imaginary world of wicked witches and evil queens,
where rabbit wears a clock and a lions seeks to have a nerve, the adventures of
two little girls could sound like as a one more story amongst many fairy tales.
However, the creative Alice, immortalized by Lewis Carroll’s best seller book
“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, and the fearful Dorothy, captured by Frank
Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz”, will deeply touch the readers by its fascinating
stories.
The fantasy world created by the authors lies in the
idea of a children’s book concept with a strong mature message underlined. Both
Alice, an imaginative teenager bored by her ordinary life, and Dorothy, an orphan
and apprehensive girl worried about the possible murder of her dog, suddenly find
themselves in Wonderland and Land of Oz, respectively, after some strange events.
The stories differ from each other in the pursuit of
the main characters. While Dorothy since the beginning constantly seeks to go
back home, Alice seems to enjoy the place that she has found and, triying to
help the inhabitants from Wonderland to destroy the evil queen.
Alice and Dorothy have the power to hold readers' attention until the end and are strongly recommended by me. However, as a sensitive reader, I would rather to pick "The Wizard of Oz" up from the shelves to read it again. The pursuit of Dorothy and her friends' dreams will definitely touch the bottom of your heart.
This is a really interesting comparison, Eduardo! I had never thought of comparing them, but you're right, there are definite similarities. I grew up reading Lewis Carroll's books and we used to watch "The Wizard of Oz" every Christmas when I was little (well, it was either "The Wizard of Oz" or "The Sound of Music"), so both of these have a special place in my life.
